Me+ Continence Care Emotional Wellbeing Workbook

An important part of the Me+ emotional wellbeing programme is the Continence Care Emotional Wellbeing Workbook. This has been specifically designed to accompany the wellbeing modules in the programme, providing the patient with a space to reflect and follow along with the guided exercises.

Me+ contains ten wellbeing modules:
  1. Getting familiar with catheterisation
  2. Common fears & reducing pain
  3. Enhancing life with catheterising
  4. Socialising & social context
  5. Movement & catheterising
  6. Intimacy
  7. Facing your feelings
  8. Negative thoughts & your relationship with yourself
  9. Building confidence in yourself
  10. Who are you now and where are you going?
Each module is recommended to be worked through over at least one week, possibly two or more if needed. Each module contains guided exercises for the patient to complete in their workbook alongside the videos.

These modules are designed to be covered in a sequential order, though if a patient wants to skip ahead to a specific module for reasons of time, they can do that. It is strongly recommended that in this situation they go back and then complete the other modules to get the most out of the programme.

Alongside the modules, the workbook includes a daily pixel tracker for users to reflect how they are feeling on a daily basis. This allows them to track and observe changes as they progress through the programme. The emotions include terrified, anxious, frustrated, unsure, OK and relieved, as well as additional columns for users to include their own additional feelings.

Before starting, users are able to select and personalise their goals for the programme. These come under the categories of:
  • To feel confident catheterising
  • To enjoy doing things that are important to me again, without feeling held back by health
  • To process some of the health changes I have experienced so far
  • To feel closer to people
  • To feel more confidence in myself
This is intended to help users to understand what changes in each of these areas might feel like for them, and how they might be able to implement or observe these changes.
Once the programme is completed, the user is able to revisit the programme whenever they feel necessary for a refresher to or use the materials from a different perspective. The user is encouraged to think of the programme as being like a staircase, with each step building on their previous experiences. When things get tough, it is important for users to remember that they are not starting from scratch, but just continuing to climb.
