Personalising Me+ for intermittent self-catheterisation by wheelchair users

Me+ is Convatec's programme designed to support patients throughout their whole journey: before, during, and after the initial consultation so they can feel confident catheterising. However, no two intermittent catheter users are the same, so why should the way they learn about catheterising be ‘one-size-fits-all’?

One part of Me+ is the personalised video guide which allows intermittent catheter users to choose the information they want whenever they need it, so they feel empowered to live confidently. Not only can this be personalised to be relevant to a male or female catheter user, it also has an option to be personalised for people who use wheelchairs, recognising the different conditions in which they will be catheterising.

The video guide can then either be used as a quick guide or personalised further with specific details relating to the use of Convatec GentleCath™ or Convatec Cure™. From start to finish, the guide covers five steps in the process of catheterising:
  1. Prepare yourself and your environment
  2. Prepare your product
  3. Insertion and voiding
  4. Removal
  5. Disposal.

People who are prescribed an intermittent catheter can often feel nervous or anxious when they begin catheterising, so part of the video includes a relaxation centre. This contains a breathing exercise, a grounding exercise and relaxing music, which catheter users can refer to and use whenever they need to help reduce the stress of the process.

As well as this, the video contains an educational library, with information about intermittent catheters, urinary tract infections and responses to the top 10 frequently asked questions that Convatec hear from intermittent catheter users. This helps put users’ minds at ease, and can be very reassuring that they are not the only person with questions about catheterisation.
